On April 18, 2013, the Emmet – Chalmers Fire Station suffered a devastating flood. Very heavy rains from the night before caused widespread flooding throughout the area. Our firehouse, located next to the Lamoine River, had over three feet of water in it. Emmet – Chalmers Firefighters responded to the emergency at their own station as the water was beginning to flood the station. The water rose quickly and firefighters worked to save apparatus, equipment, gear and just about anything else we could. Everything was relocated to a temporary location, where we continued to operate as a fully functional fire department.
Cleanup started as soon as the waters receded, two days later. The fire station was gutted and just about everything was replaced. Firefighters spent countless hours working on renovating the fire station. Firefighters proudly returned to the station they spent so much time to rebuild on October 13, 2013.
