07 Nov Emmet – Chalmers Firefighters Welcome ‘Hula Rocky’
Emmet – Chalmers Firefighters are excited to announce our newest firefighter ‘Hula Rocky’. A stunning addition to our roster, ‘Hula Rocky’ is a part of the Rocky on Parade public art project presented by the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Western Illinois University.
What is Rocky on Parade?
Rocky on Parade is more than just an art installation—it is a celebration of Western Illinois University’s rich traditions, bringing together the WIU campus and the broader community. The project showcases vibrant, creatively decorated Rocky the Bulldog statues, which help strengthen unity and supports the Rocky on Parade Department of Art & Design Student Scholarship.
The Story Behind ‘Hula Rocky’
Created by talented artist Dan Schmidt from the Department of Theater and Dance at WIU, ‘Hula Rocky’ is an eye-catching figure that blends fun with a touch of local culture. Sporting a hula skirt and tropical flair, ‘Hula Rocky’ brings a bit of sunshine and joy.
Marilyn and Nicholas Estes have generously sponsored ‘Hula Rocky’ as a tribute to the hardworking WIU students who volunteer at Emmet – Chalmers. Their sponsorship highlights the vital role these students play in keeping our community safe and supporting the future of firefighting here at Emmet – Chalmers.
Come and see ‘Hula Rocky’
Be sure to come and see ‘Hula Rocky’ in person at our Pancake and Sausage Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, November 9! It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal, celebrate our community, and show your support for the volunteer firefighters at Emmet – Chalmers.
